You get four consecutive 1952 issues of Mechanix Illustrated: February, March, April, and May. These are original Fawcett Publications magazines with the cars, home projects, science features, photography articles, hobbies, advertisements, and classified ads that filled the magazine in the early 1950s.
This is a useful group if you want the actual period magazines to read rather than cleaner copies chosen mainly for display.
These are used 1952 magazines with visible cover wear. The covers show rubbing, edge wear, softened and bumped corners, small creases, surface marks, and age discoloration. The February cover has heavier dark rubbing and surface wear. The March cover has pencil initials or marks on the front. Similar small pencil marks are visible near the upper corners of some other issues.
The page edges are yellowed from age. The interiors shown are clean, readable, and firmly usable for reading and reference. The photographed pages retain clear printing, illustrations, photographs, advertisements, and article text.
These magazines mix practical projects with period technology and everyday life. The photographed pages show step by step project material, black and white photographs, illustrations, automotive testing, workshop articles, science reporting, hobby features, and full page advertisements.
The February issue includes Tom McCahill's article on the French Renault along with automotive and science material. Other photographed pages show period advertisements for tools, correspondence courses, automotive products, and Chris Craft boats.
The advertising is a large part of the appeal of these issues. You will find original 1952 ads alongside the articles rather than reproductions removed from their original setting.
If you want crisp display copies with nearly untouched covers, this group will probably disappoint you. If you want four consecutive original 1952 issues that you can actually open, read, study, and enjoy for their cars, projects, advertising, and period technology, the interior condition is the stronger part of this set.
