Harper's Electricity Book for Boys Joseph H. Adams 1907 Harper & Brothers Antique Illustrated Hardcover Edison Frontispiece

Harper's Electricity Book for Boys was written and illustrated by Joseph H. Adams and published by Harper & Brothers in November 1907. It is a hands-on guide from the early days of electricity, and it shows young builders how to make cells and batteries, push buttons, magnets, buzzers, bells, telegraphs, and even a Wimshurst influence machine.

The book opens with a frontispiece photograph of Thomas A. Edison dictating to his graphophone, protected by a tissue guard. Joseph B. Baker, technical editor of the U.S. Geological Survey, adds an explanation of electric light, heat, power, and traction, and the book closes with a dictionary of electrical terms. Detailed line drawings run throughout, so it's a real window into how people learned about electricity over a century ago.

The green cloth cover shows a boy holding wires, framed by an orange and black border of light bulbs, a candlestick telephone, switches, utility poles, and a streetcar.

Questions buyers ask

Every listing spells it out and shows it in photos. Chips, hairlines, crazing, worn plating, old repairs. If I did not mention it, it is not there.

Yes. Every photo is the actual piece, taken by me. When it sells, it is gone.

I note maker, mark, era, and measurements when I can confirm them, and say so plainly when I cannot. Unmarked pieces get dated by what the piece itself shows.

I process order within 2 business days, wrapped and boxed so it arrives the way it left here. Don't forget, free shipping on orders $35 and up.
