This EKCO Carousel Blue Dutch Tulip potato masher is a 1960s kitchen utensil with a chromium plated steel frame and a white plastic composite handle.

I like this one for the handle. The blue tulips, small gold floral accents, and geometric details give an ordinary kitchen tool the cheerful mid century look that made coordinated kitchen utensils so memorable. It works well in an EKCO collection, a vintage kitchen display, or alongside other patterned 1960s utensils.

Positives

  • Graded Good: The masher is complete and presents well with normal signs of age and kitchen use.
  • The Blue Dutch Tulip decoration remains easy to see, with the blue flowers and gold accents still giving the handle its distinctive look.
  • The chrome masher frame remains bright overall and the four looped mashing sections appear complete.
  • The hanging hole in the handle is intact, and I do not see cracks or major chips in the photographed handle.

Issues / Wear

  • The white handle has noticeable cream yellowing from age along with light surface marks and rubbing.
  • The printed decoration shows minor age wear. This does not erase the pattern, but it keeps the piece from looking unused.
  • The metal shows light scratches and some darker age wear around the connection between the handle and frame.

Condition Grade Key

  • Near Fine: Almost perfect. Very minor signs of age only.
  • Very Good: Shows light use. Sound and attractive with minor flaws.
  • Good: Complete and intact. Noticeable wear consistent with age and use.
  • Fair: Shows significant wear. Readable or usable but clearly used.

4 Collector's Notes

  1. Decorated kitchen tools became part of the coordinated kitchen look that was popular during the mid twentieth century.
  2. Collectors of EKCO kitchenware and 1960s utensils may especially appreciate the recognizable Carousel and Blue Dutch Tulip design.
  3. The floral handle gives this piece more visual interest than a plain utility masher, while the chrome looped face still clearly shows its original purpose.
  4. The handle yellowing is honest age rather than a decorative advantage, but the surviving pattern keeps the piece appealing for display.
