This is a pair of oversized sepia photo postcards of California redwoods: In the Big Trees, Santa Cruz Cal. #520, a tall giant tree view, and A Fallen Giant, Richardson Grove, Redwood Highway Cal. #510, a long panoramic view of a cut log.
Both show corner rounding, edge wear, light surface scuffs, and warm toning, and the backs carry a typed note with initials and pencil notes, as the listing says.
The typed back reads On October 1, 1941 I visited Santa Cruz, California Redwood Reserve, and calls the tree the fourth tallest in the world, 306 feet tall after losing 75 feet in a wind storm, 22 feet in diameter and 66 feet in circumference. The second back repeats the Oct 1st 1941 date and those measurements in pencil, so you get the photos and the visitor's own record together.
