Adventures in Good Cooking (Famous Recipes) and the Art of Carving in the Home is a Duncan Hines cookbook filled with recipes credited to restaurants, inns, hotels, guest houses, and individual cooks across the country.
This is the 17th printing. The copyright line runs from 1939 through 1947. You get 525 numbered recipes, followed by section 526 on the art of carving in the home, plus an index.
The recipes are easy to read and cover everyday cooking along with dishes contributed by named restaurants and cooks. Examples visible in this copy include batter cakes from the Williamsburg Inn in Virginia, buckwheat cakes from the Marshlands Inn in Canada, bean soup from a contributor in Oklahoma City, and recipes credited to other hotels, restaurants, and home cooks.
Scattered through the book are short cooking notes and bits of period advice. There is also introductory material covering measurements and substitutions.
This is a well-used copy being sold as is. The yellow covers have heavy rubbing, staining, scratches, edge wear, worn corners, and surface marks. The spine and cover edges show substantial wear.
The binding is the main issue. When the book is opened, the inner binding is splitting and the old glue is separating from the spine. The covers remain attached in the photographed condition, but this is not a tight or sturdy binding.
The pages show age toning and darker discoloration around the edges. The recipes shown are clear and easy to read.
I believe the pages are present, but because the book does not use a standard numbered page sequence throughout, completeness is not guaranteed. It is being sold as is.
If you want a copy to use for the recipes, period cooking advice, restaurant history, or the carving section, the content remains readable. If you want a tight copy for gifting or a cleaner shelf copy, the binding wear on this one will probably be disappointing.
