This brass plated picture frame lot of 4 dates approximately from the 1950s to 1970s and includes four graduated metal portrait frames with easel backs.

I like the way these work together without matching exactly. The gold tone borders share the same older look, while the beaded edges, rope style details, stepped molding, and ribbed inserts give each frame its own character.

They would work well together on a dresser, bookshelf, mantel, or mixed gallery display.

Positives

  • Graded Good: The set is complete and displays well, with noticeable but reasonable age related wear.
  • The decorative borders remain attractive and the different molding patterns still show clearly.
  • The easel backs shown remain attached and allow the frames to stand for tabletop display.
  • The mix of four sizes makes the group useful for arranging several family photographs together.

Issues / Wear

  • Very minor spotting and scattered darkening are visible on the gold tone metal surfaces.
  • The brass plated finish shows some age related variation, especially around edges and corners.
  • The backing materials and ribbed inserts show age, discoloration, spotting, and surface wear.
  • The smallest frame has visible age discoloration behind the glass.
  • These are older frames rather than polished new replacements. The wear gives the group an authentic vintage look, but buyers wanting bright, spotless brass should expect more finish variation here.

Condition Grade Key

  • Near Fine: Almost perfect. Very minor signs of age only.
  • Very Good: Shows light use. Sound and attractive with minor flaws.
  • Good: Complete and intact. Noticeable wear consistent with age and use.
  • Fair: Shows significant wear. Usable but clearly used.

Collector's Notes

  1. Small brass tone portrait frames were a familiar part of mid century dressers, desks, mantels, and family photo displays.
  2. This group makes sense for someone building an collected gallery wall or mixing old family photographs into a shelf display.
  3. The graduated sizes and slightly different border patterns are what make this set worth keeping together rather than separating.
  4. The finish is not uniform, and that aged surface is part of what gives these four frames their older look.
