This is a vintage faux book bank advertising the Aid Association for Lutherans, a fraternal life insurance organization based in Appleton, Wisconsin.
The bank has a dark green, bookish leather-feel cover, brass-tone “page” sides, metal corner protectors, and a front image of the AAL building with raised gold-tone lettering.
It is a wonderful little crossover collectible: part advertising piece, part insurance history, part book-shaped desk object.
For Reading Vintage buyers, this one has especially nice shelf appeal because it looks like a tiny old book—but it was made to hold coins and bills. A small object with a very specific story, which is exactly the kind of odd little survivor collectors love.

The front identifies this as an Aid Association for Lutherans promotional bank. The Wisconsin Historical Society notes that AAL provided insurance beginning in 1902 and operated as a fraternal benefit society serving members of the Lutheran Synodical Conference; the organization later merged with Lutheran Brotherhood in 2002 to form Thrivent.
It has that irresistible “is it a book or is it a bank?” quality—small, strange, useful once, and now just plain good on a shelf.
Before these quietly disappear.
