This is a lot of 9 antique birthday postcards from the early 1900s — each one mailed, stamped, and carrying real handwritten messages from real people. Some traveled across the U.S. Some crossed the Atlantic. All of them are beautiful.

The fronts are a collector's dream. You get embossed florals, lucky horseshoe motifs, pastoral landscapes, forget-me-nots, carnations with a decorative fan, and romantic Art Nouveau styling. The backs are even better — original ink in beautiful penmanship, postmarks, and period stamps that place these cards between roughly 1907 and 1915.

All 10 postcards have been written on and mailed. Most show postmarks and period stamps. Handwriting throughout is in lovely period penmanship — some messages are warm and personal, including birthday wishes to "Miss Mary Ellen Giles," "Miss Hazel McCreary," and "Mrs. Lenora Shoup." Card fronts show light aging consistent with 110+ years — some gentle surface wear, slight undulation (not flat), minor toning on a few. No tears noted. Embossed cards retain good color and raised detail. The "Birthday Greeting" folded card with applied roses is a tri-fold style and stands up nicely. One card back is unused/blank. Sold as a complete lot.

Collector's Notes

The postcard craze of the early 1900s was real — people mailed cards the way we send texts today. These 9 cards are a little time capsule of that era. The messages on the backs are genuinely touching. One sender apologizes for missing a birthday party. Another is from "Uncle Albert" wishing many happy birthdays. A third is a long, newsy letter written sideways across the correspondence section.

The fronts are the art — horseshoes for luck, forget-me-nots for remembrance, embossed carnations with a Japanese fan, pastoral English church scenes. It's the visual language of Edwardian affection, and it still translates beautifully on a bookshelf, in a frame, or tucked into a junk journal.

A perfect find for postcard collectors, paper ephemera enthusiasts, or anyone who loves the handmade-feeling beauty of early 20th-century print.
