About the Author

Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923) was an American children's author and educator best known for her novel Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. Born in Philadelphia and of Welsh descent, Wiggin pioneered early childhood education, founding the first free kindergarten in San Francisco in 1878. She also established a training school for kindergarten teachers, leaving a lasting legacy in both literature and education.
