Watty Piper was the pen name of Arnold Munk (1888–1957), a Hungarian-born storyteller who became a cornerstone of American children’s books. After moving to Chicago as a child and later settling in New York, Munk founded Platt & Munk, running it from 200 Fifth Avenue until he died in 1957.
As both editor and author, he brought countless stories to life in the 1930s and ‘40s, leaving a legacy of wonder—including classics like The Little Engine That Could.
