Preserve Like It’s 1960s

For those who take their food preservation seriously—or just love a good vintage cookbook—these Kerr Home Canning and Ball Blue Book guides from the late 1950s and early 1960s are essential finds.

These booklets contain easy-to-understand recipes and methods for canning meats, vegetables, fruits, and even fish. They are a great resource for anyone looking to try old-school canning and fascinating pieces of culinary history.

A Glimpse into Vintage Canning

These guides are more than just cookbooks—they offer a window into how canning practices, terminology, and even the definition of "canning" have evolved over the past century.

The Ball Blue Book is particularly renowned as one of the most comprehensive resources for home canners. At the same time, Kerr’s guide is filled with practical advice, vintage advertisements, and quirky products that no longer exist today (like the wood-fired tomato canner!).
