There are things in the book you could never do in a movie.–Noah Hathaway
Many people choose to scroll through Netflix rather than open a book to view films like The Importance of Being Earnest or Where the Wild Things Are. However, there are advantages to reading books rather than watching movies, and it's vital to consider reading the book before watching the movie. Vital seems like a strong word, but then I’m a little biased as a books lover.
I'm sure you are excited when you hear that a favorite book is being turned into a feature film if you're a big reader. Your thoughts are preoccupied with who the actors or actresses will be and will they be a good fit, living up to the expectations you have built up in your mind.
Will the writer stay faithful to the book, and, most importantly, whether or not the film will be as good as the book. The anticipation of finally being able to visualize something that had previously only been in your thoughts is always thrilling. But will it meet your expectations? Or will you be disappointed?
Continue reading my top three reasons why reading the book may be beneficial and enjoyable for you and your family! If you have other reasons why reading the book is better that watching the movie and your thoughts in the comments.
When you read a book, it is absolutely up to you how you perceive the story. Movies, on the other hand, tell you what to think. They use visual and audio elements to influence how you perceive and feel. So while there is nothing wrong with going to the movies, you may be missing out on the chance to use your imagination if you prefer movies to books.
The inner discussion you have when reading a book is an essential element of the experience. Understanding the actions and intentions of the main characters is never an issue because all of this information is intrinsically interwoven in the plot.
However, in a film, some of that knowledge can be lost. Many viewers are captivated by gorgeous performers and incredible special effects. As a result, they miss the plot and character development at the story's heart. On the other hand, books do not have such distractions, allowing readers to feel as though they know the characters on a personal level.
Anywhere you go, you can read a book. A good book sweeps you away from your surroundings, filters out all noise, and suspends reality; it immerses you in the story and transfers you to the characters' world, where you see and feel all they do. Some authors can do this repeatedly. You don't need electricity to charge your book, and you don't need a television to watch it on. Books are convenient to carry and provide a never-ending supply of pleasure.
This quote sums it up. "Books are a uniquely portable magic."― Stephen King
Books are wonderful because they allow the reader to become a participant in the story; we are the observers who gain insight into the character's thoughts and feelings and all of the intricacies that make three-dimensional characters possible. There's just more with books. More detail, stronger attention to character development, and a deeper understanding of the artwork's meaning.
Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments. What books were ruined for you when they made the movie? What movie was better than the book?
Happy reading,
