Description

War Rations for Pennsylvanians tells the story of the operations of the Federal Food Administration in Pennsylvania; including personal and biographical sketches of its officers and members, with dramatic, humorous and unusual episodes in the experience of county administrators during the war. The book written by George Nox McCain and was published in 1920 by The John C. Winston Co.

Although rationing is most frequently associated with World War II, this book focuses on war rationing in Pennsylvania during World War One. Various portraits of people connected to war rationing both nationally and in Pennsylvania are used to illustrate the book. The book opens with a really beautiful portrayal of Herbert Hoover as the National Food Administrator. Hoover would become president four years later.

Bonus: a letter found in the book from the White House stamped and dated 1929 has been left for your enjoyment. How fun!

What is vintage sustainability?

Buying vintage anything is essential because recycling and reusing items means fewer polluting resources are being used to make brand new books, kitchen items, bookends, and more.

Approximately 640,000 tons of books are deposited in the landfill annually at an average weight of 4 pounds each. This averages out to about 320 million books discarded each year that are not recycled. Wow!

As avid readers become more conscious of the environmental consequence of disposable books, we are looking for a more sustainable way to shop.

Could buying vintage be the answer? Absolutely!

Our vintage books are authentic, sustainable, and unique. So make a difference - your way.

All of my vintage books are sourced from personal collections found in estate sales.

When you shop with Reading Vintage, you are saving a book from the landfill.

Sustainability is the future.

I'm passionate about preserving our past and passionate about the power of books to tell stories.

Because my goal at Reading Vintage is to connect readers to books, I hope to save these books from the landfill.

I'm proud to offer these books that are gently used. For anyone interested in the environment, browse our online shelves so you can find the titles you love in a way that's more environmentally friendly.

Happy Reading,
