The Merrie Christmas Drink Book is a delightful cookbook filled with Christmas cheer. Unfortunately, Peter Pauper press does not disclose its author, which is too bad. However, she deserves credit for a comprehensive and beautifully illustrated survey.

In addition to the run of recognizably American cocktails, the Drink Book includes a chapter of "Party Punch Bowls" that dispenses, among lots of other good advice, two general guidelines for creating of your own:

“1. Never use Scotch, which is a bad mixer; and 2. If you use gin, use no other hard liquor in combination with it, and remember that gin mixes best with citrus fruits. Other liquors: brandy, rye, bourbon and rum, will mix with any fruit--and with each other--and with wine.”

Other advice is more mischievous, even theatrical, for example:

“Champagne or other sparkling wine in a punch prepared in the kitchen is a waste: soda water gives the same bubbles. But  Champagne added in public is a festive gesture.” (emphasis of course in original)

Many of the punches are British in origin, and one of them is from Antoine's restaurant in New Orleans. The recipes for Artillery, Bombay, Brandy Fish House, and Hot Rum punches originate in the Anglosphere pack a particular appeal.

The Merrie Christmas Drink Book is an excellent addition to your vintage Christmas recipe collection or home kitchen.

The cookbook The Merrie Christmas Drink Book decorated is in good condition for its age with no rips or tears. However, please note the wear and ink on the dust jacket and the previous owner's name stamped on the inside page.

Who We Are

Adopt a sustainable mindset

When your shopping for a new novel, most readers don't imagine that you can do it in a eco-friendly way. In every area of your life you can live a sustainable lifestyle even while shopping for new to you vintage books!

Sustainable living is accomplished by making choices that reduce our environmental impact by making fundamental changes to counteract climate change and decrease ecological destruction.

What is vintage sustainability?

Buying vintage anything is essential because recycling and reusing items means fewer polluting resources are being used to make brand new books, kitchen items, bookends, and more.

Approximately 640,000 tons of books are deposited in the landfill annually at an average weight of 4 pounds each. This averages out to about 320 million books discarded each year that are not recycled. Wow!

As avid readers become more conscious of the environmental consequence of disposable books, we are looking for a more sustainable way to shop.

Could buying vintage be the answer? Absolutely!

Our vintage books are authentic, sustainable, and unique. So make a difference - your way.

All of my vintage books are sourced from personal collections found in estate sales.

When you shop with Reading Vintage, you are saving a book from the landfill.

Sustainability is the future.

I'm passionate about preserving our past and passionate about the power of books to tell stories.

Because my goal at Reading Vintage is to connect readers to books, I hope to save these books from the landfill.

I'm proud to offer these books that are gently used. For anyone interested in the environment, browse our online shelves so you can find the titles you love in a way that's more environmentally friendly.

Happy Reading,
